c64-history-part-2

The Commodore 64 made its way to my home , and a new era was born! The following games that I recall are not necessarily the greatest but they have some sort of part to play in the proceedings…
The day I had the machine I borrowed a game from a friend (Who I have since forgotten , as I failed to return it to him!) ,It was Rambo First Blood part two. Immediataly trying to load the game impressed me of the machines potential , The fact that it actually said “PRESS PLAY ON TAPE” was amazing in its self , The atari never asked you that!.The game started to load and colours flashed , then without warning a piece of music started to play while the game was loading , wow …The tune was amazing as was all the sounds in the game , This was multimedia of the 1980′s!. Then as if I wasnt impressed already a picture started to appear on the screen , It was Sly himself , cool. I couldnt wait to play it, This machine had won me over already!.The sounds were straight from the film and were by a composer named Martin Galway (Nephew of the famous galway composer) the gameplay was also excellent.

The first ever game purchased by me on the c64 was Ace of Aces , A graphically excellent flying game, and so my collection got started. There were simply to many in my collection to mention , so only the real time killers and other personal reasons why the games below are included.

I Followed some companies that were now producing Quality products and made sure that I had there latest product as soon as it was released. These were System 3 , Thalamus , Zepplin (Budget games). Many great games existed on the Thalamus label including: Sanxion , Delta , Hawkeye , Armalyte , Quedex , Retrograde ect.. I thought that there presentation and musical style were excellent from Rob Hubbards legendary loader tune in Sanxion , to the great title tune and gfx in Hawkeye. I was particulalry engrossed in the game Hawkeye and played it for months trying to map it , and listening to the title tune again and again.

From the stables of System 3 , Games like International Karate , IK+ , Vendetta , Bangkok Knights , And possibly the best game on the C64 ever The Last Ninja I & II , I think both games were fantanstic and inspiring music added to the games. I remember listening to the great first level loading tune and when the games title picture came up it was amazing , as was all the graphics within the series.
